Trade licence pathway
Building experience, site supervision and project coordination.
Builder licensing pathways are typically the most involved of the trade licence categories, since state regulators often require evidence of both hands-on building experience and site supervision or project coordination responsibility. RPL assessment for a building and construction qualification looks at the breadth of projects you have worked on, the range of building elements you have coordinated, and how you managed compliance, subcontractors and clients on site.
A nationally recognised qualification may support a trade licence application, but your state regulator makes the final decision and sets its own criteria.
Not necessarily. Assessors look at the level of responsibility and coordination you held on projects, whether as a site supervisor, project manager or in another building-and-construction role, not only business ownership.
No. A Certificate IV in Building and Construction is a nationally recognised AQF qualification. Your state regulator (for example Fair Trading NSW, the QBCC in Queensland or the VBA in Victoria) separately assesses your licence application, which may have its own experience, insurance and financial requirements.
